YOUR GUIDE TO

 RUG SIZE & STYLE

We share with you some guidelines which are useful to decide the size of the dhurrie, so that you select one that best enhances your home. The size of a dhurrie is determined by two factors: the purpose of using a dhurrie, and the proportion of the size of the decor items in a room.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  •  If the room is large, the dhurrie should also be large.

  •  Leave a band of the visible floor, such that there is a gap of 1ft 6in - 2ft between the dhurrie and the wall.

  •  Furniture legs can either rest entirely or partially on the dhurrie, and depends on the details. Finally, it is a matter of preference.

  •  Experiment with different sizes and see what works for your home.

  LIVING ROOM

If you like a small or a medium dhurrie and want to use it in the living room, place it under the coffee table.

In rooms where the furniture is placed against the wall, choose the size of the dhurrie such that the front legs of the furniture are placed on the dhurrie.

In large rooms where the furniture is away from the walls and in the middle, the dhurrie should anchor the entire room without making the room look congested.

 STYLING TIP

  • You want a dhurrie small enough to fit the space, but big enough to tie your furniture together. Getting this right grounds all of the pieces and makes the space feel open, and inviting.

  • When in doubt, select a dhurrie that allows for the front legs of the sofa and chairs to rest on top of it. We typically recommend a 8ft x10ft or 7ft x10ft dhurrie to create a large enough canvas for your furniture setup.

  • If you’re in an apartment or studio, go for a dhurrie that allows for at least two of the furniture pieces’ legs to fit on it.

Whether round or rectangular, your dhurrie should extend at least 2ft - 3ft around all edges of the table. This prevents the chairs from awkwardly going off the dhurrie when they are pushed back as you sit down or stand up.

Select a dhurrie that's large enough for your desk chair to move around comfortably. Ideally, it will encompass the entire desk, chair, and any other essential furniture.
